The Lives we Live: Episode #13
Episode #13 - April 17th, 2001

Richmond Mansion
Andrea has a pleasant look on her face because she is so happy at how well Jim lied. Douglas's jaw almost hits the floor when he hears this. He just looks back and forth at Andrea and Jim with a confused and shocked expression on his face.

Douglas: "I...I don't think that I quiet understand Mr. O'Keffe."
Andrea: "Douglas, he was perfectly clear. What's not to understand? My daughter wants nothing to do with you, she never did."
Douglas: "This can't be right. This has to be some sick joke."
Andrea: "Oh Dougie..."
Douglas: "Master Douglas to you."
Andrea: "What?"
Douglas: "Your supposed to call me Master Douglas, especially after this."
Jim: "I hope all of this doesn't ruin our relationship with your family. You and your mother are so nice, and I'm sure your siblings and your father are just the same."
Douglas: "I only have one more thing to tell the two of you before I throw your sorry asses out of here."

Andrea and Jim looked shocked. Douglas advances on them.

Douglas: "First of all, I didn't have to go up to your daughter at the party last night. There were a million of single young women there, and any one of them would have loved to have the opportunity to spend the evening with me. I went up to Brittany because she was a new face, I wanted to welcome her and make her feel comfortable. I didn't expect to start to fall in love with her. You have a wonderful daughter, but with all due respect, she doesn’t take after either of you. I might be wrong though. She might just be a gold-digging tramp. I guess your family is just lower class trash. Get out of my mansion."

Douglas turns around and starts to leave the room. Jim grabs his arm and turns him around. He punches him square in the jaw and Douglas trips backwards and grabs hold of a table and is able to stand back up, before falling to the ground. They stare at each other.

Velez Mansion
Miranda and Geovanna stare at each other. Miranda terrified Geovanna curious.

Geovanna: "Answer me already Miranda. What did you mean by what you said?"
Miranda: "I didn't mean anything threatening to you. It really was nothing. You should finish getting dressed. I'll go and tell Leonardo that you'll be going out in about two hours."

Miranda turns and walks towards the door. Geovanna jumps up, still holding the 'book safe,' and stands in front of the door. Blocking Miranda from leaving.

Miranda: "Señora Geovanna..."
Geovanna: "Tell me what you meant."

Miranda looks scared again. She thinks to herself: "I can't tell her what I really meant. Think Miranda, think."

Geovanna: "Miranda, I'm waiting. Tell me what you meant, right now."
Miranda: "I...only meant...um...that if you don't find the information that you're looking for in this book safe, then Santa would find out and you'd be in trouble for looking in the safe to begin with, no less even being in the library without hers or David's permission."
Geovanna: "Oh. Is that all you meant?"
Miranda: "That's it."
Geovanna: "Okay. As long as that's it."
Miranda: "It is."
Geovanna: "The information has to be in here, it just has to be."
Miranda: "Señora?"
Geovanna: "Yes?"
Miranda: "What is it exactly that you are looking for? I mean why would señora Velez have a piece of paper that said she helped in your mothers murder?"
Geovanna: "She doesn't. Who in their right mind would have something like that? I'm looking for my mothers pearls."
Miranda: "Pearls? Why would Santa have your mothers pearls?"
Geovanna: “That's a long story that I could perhaps tell you another time. Right now we need to find the key to this safe."
Miranda: "Where would we look?"
Geovanna: "She probably wouldn't have the key in the same room as the safe so lets start in her room."
Miranda: "Her room? How on earth will we get in there? Señora Velez doesn't let anyone in there. She's more protective of that then she is of the library. She even keeps her room locked."
Geovanna: "The staff must have a copy of the key to her room."
Miranda: "No, we don't, at least I don't think so. I'm the one that usually cleans her room and she stands in the room and watches me as I clean. The only other people that she trusts to be there alone is David and Bianca."
Geovanna: "Then maybe one of them has a key. I'm going to get dressed. You go and find some way to learn if Bianca or my husband have a copy of that key."

Miranda nods and hesitantly leaves the room. Geovanna walks into her huge closet to get dressed.

Wilson Home
Dominique and Roger stand next to each other both looking at Matt. Dominique dries the last tears left on her cheek.

Roger: "Hey Matt."
Matt: "Uncle Roger, what was mommy talking about? Why are you and her keeping a secret? Can I know the secret?"
Dominique: "Matt, honey, if Uncle Roger and I were to tell you the secret then you wouldn't be surprised when we tell you and daddy and Alexis."
Roger: "It's better to wait Matt. You'll be really surprised with your mom's secret."

Dominique knew exactly what Roger was talking about and wasn't pleased by the way he was speaking. She ignored it for now and turned back to Matt.

Matt: "Please tell me the secret now mommy. I'll act surprised when you tell daddy and Alexis. I promise."
Dominique: "I know, but I really can't tell you."
Matt: "Please..."
Dominique: "Mommy said no."
Matt: "Fine, but I hope you tell us soon. I'm going to watch Pokémon."

Matt runs back into the house. Dominique lets out a sigh of relief and sits back down on the bench. Roger leans against the railing across from her.

Roger: "That was close. Good save."
Dominique: "Shut up Roger. You just better remember our deal."
Roger: "Same goes for you."
Dominique: "I should get going."

Dominique stands up and walks off the porch and gets into her car. Roger watches as she pulls away.

South Sea Watersdale Hospital
Jodi is sitting behind her desk talking on the telephone.

Jodi: "I'm sure that it is indeed a wonderful drug and that it gets good results, but this hospital doesn't need that right now. I don't even think that we can afford it, maybe another time though. Thank you so much for calling. Goodbye."

Jodi hangs up the telephone and there is a knock at the door. She gets up and opens it. It's Richard and Katie. Jodi smiles when she sees Richard and promptly gives him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. They go into the office.

Jodi: "Richard. How are you? It's so great to see you.”
Richard: "I'm good. We haven't spoken in so long."
Jodi: "I know, and I meant to talk to you about that. We're have you been?"
Richard: "You know how busy it gets around here sometimes. Besides I hadn't been spending much time with Mariah, so I decided to take a few days off too."
Jodi: "I haven't seen Mariah in so long. How's she doing?"
Richard: "She's good."
Jodi: "That's so good to hear. Did you go to the Richmond's party last night?"
Richard: "Yes I did. Mariah and I didn't stay long though."
Jodi: "Neither did I. There were quite a few problems that I'll tell you about another time, but why are you here today? I didn't see you on the roster."
Richard: "I'm here to show my new assistant nurse around. Katie, this is Dr. Jodi Blake. Jodi, this is Katie Barnes."
Jodi: "Nice to meet Miss Barnes. I'm sure you'll do great work."
Katie: "Nice to meet you too, and I'm confident that I will do great work, seeing who I'll be working by."
Jodi: "Yes. Richard is an amazing young doctor. I just love him. I love him as if he were my own son."
Richard: "She says that to all of the young male doctors here."
Jodi: "Don't be silly. You know I love you like a son."
Richard: "I know, I know, and I love you like a mother."

They laugh and Katie smiles as she looks on. She excuses herself to go to the restroom. She leaves the room and Jodi gets serious with Richard for a moment and asks him to sit down in a chair. She sits down next to him.

Jodi: "Is this the same Katie Barnes that you told me about?"
Richard: "Yeah."
Jodi: "Does Mariah know that she's here? That she's going to be your nurse?"
Richard: "Yeah she knows."
Jodi: "Does she know about your past with Katie?"
Richard: "Not exactly."
Jodi: "What's that supposed to mean?"
Richard: "I told her that we were in college together."
Jodi: "But she doesn't know that you were romantically involved with her and that you were once engaged?"
Richard: "No. I don't think that's an issue."
Jodi: "Be careful Rich. Please be careful. I don't think this is the case, but take it into consideration. Katie could be here just to try and get you back now that you're a real doctor and everything. I don't want to see your relationship with Mariah be destroyed over this. So please, be careful that you aren’t pulled into a deceitful trick."
Richard: "That won't happen Jodi. I won't let Katie ruin my relationship with Mariah, even if she were to try. I'm going to find her now. I still have to show her a few things."

Jodi nods and smiles as Richard leaves the room. Jodi's smile then turns to a frown and she begins to worry about this love triangle that seems to be forming.

River Ridge Park
Jason walks down the footpath at River Ridge Park. It's a beautiful, sunny day outside and many people are in the park. Children are playing catch, Frisbee and other springtime games. Jason goes and sits under a large tree. Soon Lindsey comes and sits under the tree with him. They kiss.

Jason: "I'm glad you made it."
Lindsey: "I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
Jason: "Were you able to leave the mansion without getting the third degree?"
Lindsey: "I got the third degree and the riot act from my father. 'Where are you going? I hope you're not going anywhere I wouldn't want you to be! You better not be seeing that boy anymore.'"

Lindsey says, mimicking her father.

Jason: "We've always had to date secretively, and now it's worse. Now your family knows that we're dating and I'm sure all of them, excluding your mother, are on a warpath to break us up."
Lindsey: "It's hard, but we love each other and we can get through this. We both know we can."
Jason: "I know our love is the only thing that matters."
Lindsey: "That's right and we have to keep that in mind, not what my family thinks or what they're going to do."
Jason: "That's right. We know your mother is fine with us seeing each other and we know that my father is fine with it too. At least we have two people's blessings."

Jose was walking near the tree and saw them. He heard the last little bit of the conversation. He comes from around the tree. Lindsey and Jason stand up.

Jose: "You're going to need a lot more then two people's blessings."
Lindsey: "What are you doing here?"
Jose: "The question is, what are you doing here, little sister? And with him?"
Jason: "It's Jason and I'm her boyfriend."
Jose: "The hell you are."
Lindsey: "Why don't you just leave us alone Jose?"
Jose: "I think I will. I think I'll leave you two alone and get papá and abuela to come down here and bother you."
Jason: "That's right. Run along and tell your master that Lindsey is with that low class boy again. Run as fast as the wind can carry you, because God knows that's the only thing you know how to do. Rat on your sister."
Jose: "You little bastard."

Jose goes to punch Jason, but he blocks him and punches him first. Jose falls to the ground but get up and they continue to fight. Throwing each other to the ground and punching each other in the face and stomach. Lindsey screams at them as people in the park turn to watch the action.

Velez Mansion
Miranda goes into the kitchen where Marjorie, the cook, and Bianca are standing, talking. Miranda says nothing to either of them. She snoops around trying to find the set of keys that the maids have. Bianca and Marjorie notice her.

Marjorie: "Miranda, what are you doing?"
Miranda: "Looking for the large set of keys."
Bianca: "For what?"
Miranda: "I...I mean, señora Geovanna needs them."
Marjorie: "Señora Geovanna, señora Geovanna. Why are you so attached to her? She's nothing but a upper class bitch. Don't you see how arrogant and nasty she is?"
Miranda: "She's not to me. Maybe if you would give her some respect she wouldn't hate you as much."
Marjorie: "If you like being sent off on her little errands then that's your choice, but I wouldn't do anything for her if you paid me a million bucks. It's bad enough that she eats the food I cook."
Miranda: "Anyway, Bianca, can I use your set of keys, I can't find mine or the large set."
Bianca: "Well, I...yeah, I guess."

Bianca reaches into the pocket of her maid's uniform and hands Miranda her set of keys. Miranda thanks her and leaves the kitchen.

Marjorie: "Don't you have a key to señora Velez's room on that set?"
Bianca: "Yes, why?"
Marjorie: "I have a suspicion that Miranda and her mistress are up to something. All I have to say is, I'm glad I'm not you."

Bianca begins to worry. Marjorie continues to cook. Up in Geovanna's room, Geovanna is sitting on the edge of her bed fiddling with the 'book safe.' She is now dressed and Miranda re enters holding Bianca's set of keys.

Miranda: "I have Bianca's set of keys, señora."
Geovanna: "Marvelous. Let's get right down to business and see if one of those keys opens Santa's bedroom. Hopefully one of them will and hopefully we'll be able to find the key to this safe."

Geovanna leaves the room and Miranda follows.

Richmond Mansion
Douglas and Jim stare at each other furiously. Andrea looks on worried and scared.

Douglas: "How dare you lay a hand on me!"
Jim: "How dare you talk about my family the way you did!"
Douglas: "Get out of my mansion this instant."
Jim: "My pleasure. Come on Andrea."

Jim and Andrea leave the grand room and then leave the mansion all together. Douglas follows behind them and watches them drive away. He holds his jaw and goes back into the mansion. Jim and Andrea drive out of the gates of the mansion and pull onto the street. Andrea is still shocked by what happened.

Andrea: "I'm confused."
Jim: "About what?"
Andrea: "Weren't we supposed to get everything we've ever wanted?"
Jim: "That all went down the drains when Brittany announced that she was moving."
Andrea: "No, you said your plan would make sure that Brittany wouldn't get anything out of dating Douglas, but that we would. I think your plan failed."
Jim: "Half of it did. That rich snob wants nothing to do with Brittany now, so she won't benefit from him."
Andrea: "But neither will we."
Jim: "That's okay, we still have Ryan. The important thing is that Brittany is screwed."
Andrea: "I kind of feel bad for doing this to our own daughter."
Jim: "She deserved it. She should have never decided to move out. She could have stayed living with us and continued to see Douglas and proceed to get married to him and then get his fortune for herself and us, but she wanted it her way and like I said, now she's screwed."
Andrea: "You're right. I'll start on Ryan right away and hopefully he'll do what we say. Then we'll finally have everything that we've ever wanted and more. First I have to get back on track with Jodi."

Jim and Andrea laugh as they continue to drive down the street.

South Sea Watersdale Hospital
Jodi is back sitting at her desk writing vigorously. There's a knock at the door and she yells for who ever it is to come in. Mariah walks in.

Jodi: "Mariah! Hi! What a pleasant surprise."
Mariah: "Hey Jodi. I thought I'd come and see you since I haven't seen you in so long. I was wondering if you want to go and have lunch with me."
Jodi: "I'd love to. Mariah, something's wrong isn't it? I can tell. What is it?"
Mariah: "It's about Richard and it's a long story. I'll tell you over lunch."
Jodi: "You know, Richard was just here."
Mariah: "Really? Did he say why?"
Jodi: "He's here showing his new nurse around the building."

Mariah becomes uncomfortable and Jodi senses it.

Jodi: "That's what's wrong isn't it? Katie."
Mariah: "Yeah. She's part of it."
Jodi: "Rich said that you were okay with her being here."
Mariah: "I was, I mean, at first I didn't like it. Seeing that I walked into his house and they were standing there hugging and then he told me that she was going to be staying there until she found her own apartment. It was a little uncomfortable for me, but then I realized that they are only friends and nothing would happen."
Jodi: "So why are you so suspicious now? Why is it bothering you so much?"
Mariah: "Because before I didn't know that they used to date, that they were once engaged. He didn't tell me. I found out from Maria."
Jodi: "How did she find out?"
Mariah: "Katie told her."
Jodi: "Oh, I was afraid of this. That little tramp is after Rich, I just know it."
Mariah: "Why didn't he tell me that they were involved in more ways then just friendship?"
Jodi: "He thought it would hurt you too much."
Mariah: "Well, it does, and it is."
Jodi: "He doesn't think you know about them."
Mariah: "Of course he doesn't. That's why I need to talk to him right now. Do you know if he's still here?"
Jodi: "He should be. Let's go and check his office first."

Jodi and Mariah leave Jodi's office and head for Richard's office.

River Ridge Park
Jason and Jose continue to fight and Lindsey screams and tries to break them up.

Lindsey: "Stop! Just stop it right now!"

Jose pushes Jason one last time and they stand across from each other after Lindsey screams at them.

Jose: "You'll pay for this Jason Forbes."
Jason: "I'm shaking."
Jose: "Don't get snippy with me."
Jason: "You better watch your back, rich boy."
Jose: "You'd be wise to do the same. Let's go Lindsey."
Lindsey: "I'm not going anywhere."
Jose: "Yes you are. Come on Lindsey."
Jason: "She's not going anywhere."
Jose: "You just keep out of this."
Jason: "No. I won't let you interrupt our date."
Jose: "This is not a date. This is sneaking around behind my back and my father's back and my grandmother's back. Lindsey if you don't come with me now then I'm going to tell abuela and papá. You don't want abuela to find out about this. You have to stop seeing this boy. Let's go, now."
Lindsey: "Fine. I'll go with you and I'll stop seeing Jason."
Jason: "What? Lindsey..."
Lindsey: "I have to go Jason."

Jose takes Lindsey's hand and leads her away. Lindsey turns around and looks at Jason's shocked and sad face and lips to him "I love you." Jason smiles.

Wilson Home
There is a loud knock on the door and Roger goes to open it. It's Donny, his loan shark, with two other men.

Roger: "Donny. What are you doing here?"
Donny: "What do you think I'm here for?"
Roger: "I don't have the money right now. I'm sorry."
Donny: "Sorry doesn't cut it with us. You don't want my two good friends here to be all over you, now do you?"

Roger looks at the two huge men standing behind Donny.

Donny: "How much longer do I have to wait for this money? I'm almost to my limit of waiting."
Roger: "I promise you that I'll have it for you tomorrow."
Donny: "You better have it, because that was the agreement. Tomorrow is the last day. I'm warning you. You don't want to see what'll happen if you don't have it."
Roger: "I'll have it. Don't worry."
Donny: "I'm not worried. I win no matter what. See you tomorrow."

The three men walk off the porch and Roger closes the front door and sighs.

Roger: "Damn. This is going to be hard. I have to give them two hundred dollars by tomorrow and I don't have a cent of it. The only thing to do is to leave town, but then I won't have a clutch on Dominique anymore. What am I going to do? Maybe I can destroy Dominique's life first, by telling Kyle about her secret and then I could leave town. Donny won't be able to find me, and when Dominique tries to get back at me and tells Kyle that I'm dealing again, I'll be long gone. That's what I have to do. I'll get everything I want.”

Roger heads back to the spare room to help Kyle finish the web page.

South Sea Watersdale Hospital
Richard and Katie walk into his office.

Richard: "...and last, this is my office. You'll probably need to come in here a lot. Sometimes for things that I need and sometimes you'll need to come in here to give me things or to give me a message. Hopefully, you won't need to come all the way over here that often. I think I've showed you all of the places that you'll need to know for now. I'll ask Jodi, just to be sure. You know, when I first got here she took me under her wing and showed me around the entire building. That's part of the reason why we're so close now. I hope you'll get to know her because she is such a good doctor and she knows..."
Katie: "Shut up Richard. You've showed me around the building. I could care less about anything else right now. It's so convenient that the last stop was your secluded office."

Katie closes the door and turns the mini-blinds that are covering the window looking out into the hallway. She then proceeds to close the vertical blinds that are on the large windows looking over the town.

Richard: "Katie, what do you think you're doing?"
Katie: "I'm making your office even more secluded and private. This was a great idea of yours."
Richard: "What are you talking about?"
Katie: "You liked what happened earlier so much that you want to do it again. That's why you made this our last stop. So, I'm making sure nobody can see us."
Richard: "Katie, that was a mistake. I got way too caught up in the moment."
Katie: "You still made love to me. Right after Mariah left too. You must not love her all that much."

Richard grabs Katie's arm tightly.

Richard: "Don't you ever say that. I love Mariah with all my heart. I don't care about you anymore Katie. Why can't you see that what we had is over. We aren’t dating anymore and we aren't engaged. And just forget about what happened earlier."
Katie: "You're hurting me, let go."

Richard lets go. He begins to open all the blinds in his office. He leaves the door closed.

Katie: "You know you want me. You can't resist. Just give in to temptation. What Mariah doesn't know, won't hurt her."
Richard: "Your tour of the hospital is over, you can leave now. You should start looking for an apartment. The sooner you're out of my house, the better."
Katie: "Fine."

Katie walks over to Richard. She grabs his tie and pulls him in for another passionate kiss. Out in the hall Jodi and Mariah are walking up towards Richard's office. Jodi opens the door and both her and Mariah see Richard and Katie kissing. Mariah and Jodi both look shocked. Richard and Katie look at the two of them. Mariah runs out of the office and down the hall. Richard gives Katie a dirty look and runs after Mariah. Jodi looks at Richard in disappointment as he runs by her. Katie looks as innocent as possible when Jodi looks at her in disgust.

Velez Mansion
Geovanna and Miranda stand in the corridor right outside Santa's bedroom. Geovanna reaches for the doorknob to see if, by chance it's unlocked, but it's not.

Geovanna: "Okay Miranda. Do you know which key it is?"
Miranda: "No. I told you, I don't have a key to this door and I've never been in there without señora Velez watching me."
Geovanna: "Well, come on, try each key."
Miranda: "There are so many."
Geovanna: "I know, but we have to try them all."

Miranda begins to try each key on the key chain. There are about fifty keys. The third one she tries does the trick and it fits perfectly into the keyhole.

Geovanna: "Oh my God. Yes. This is it. Let me turn it."

Geovanna takes the key and turns it. There is a click. She takes the key out and hands it to Miranda. She then takes the doorknob in her hand and turns it nice and slow. Then she opens the door and walks in. The room is only lit with the sun shining in through the large glass doors that lead to Santa's private balcony. There is a large queen sized bed against one wall, a vanity against another, a wardrobe against another. There is a door leading to a private bathroom.

Geovanna: "I've never been in here. It's so big and so nice. She's such a bitch."
Miranda: "Señora, I think we should just look for the key and get out. If señora Velez were to return home and catch us in here then there would be hell to pay."
Geovanna: "I know. You search through the nightstands and I'll look through the vanity."
Miranda: "Okay."

Miranda does as Geovanna says and begins to look through the two nightstands on either side of Santa's bed. Geovanna looks in the drawers in her vanity. They then move onto the wardrobe, under the bed, in the closet and anywhere else that Santa may have the key to the 'book safe' hiding.

Wilson Home
Roger walks into the spare room where Kyle is still playing around with the Wilson family web page. He sits in the chair next to him.

Kyle: "Roger, are you keeping something from me?"
Roger: "What?"
Kyle: "Are you keeping something from me? Is there a secret that you're hiding?"
Roger: "Um...me...a secret? No."
Kyle: "So you and Dominique aren't hiding anything from me?"
Roger: "Me and Dominique. No."
Kyle: "Don't lie to me Roger! I know that you and Dominique are hiding something from me. Tell me what it is!"

Roger is nervous and Kyle waits for Roger to say something.
